Lexus is indicating a noteworthy shift to increase its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the recent trademark filings suggesting the launch of its EV versions of its ES sedan lineup. These trademarks that Lexus filed are the ES350e and the ES500e.

Interestingly, the speculation about a fully electric Lexus ES was first tracked from a following teaser back in 2021. The teaser displayed a midsize sedan reminiscent of the existing ES model but with a redesigned appearance. This teaser hinted at a potential facelift for the ES lineup, coinciding with the introduction of hybrid and electric powertrains.

Lexus’ trademark filings are regarding names like ES350e and ES500e, adding its ES350h hybrid trim according to AutoGuide. With the new addition of these EV models, Lexus will have more fully electric powertrain models joining its existing lineup. While details about the ES350e and ES500e remain low, the base ES350e is projected to contain an electric single-motor drive system with around 300 horsepower and the ES500e could have a more potent electric dual-motor setup with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

Moreover, the addition of ‘e’ designation in Lexus’ lineup signifies plans for an electric ES as the only other available model with the ‘e’ designation is its RZ models including RZ300e and RZ450e, which both have electric motors.

The trademark filings align with Lexus’ strategy to offer more EVs while transitioning to being fully electric by 2030 in certain markets like the U.S. and the goal to become an EV-only company on a global scale by 2035. As the company’s ES lineup is being electrified, its path to developing its EV lineup is becoming closer.
