Microsoft's Kinect Joy Ride
Chevy Volt Virtual Test Drives will be available to players of the new Xbox 360 Kinect game called Kinect Joy Ride by Microsoft Game Studios that will be Microsoft’s first controller-free racing game.
To test drive GM’s new EV (Electric Vehicle) players will have to unlock the car by watching a Volt advertisement either on the Xbox Live or on the web. This takes virtual product placement to a whole new level, where players and perhaps soon to become customers will have the ability to interact with the Chevy Volt even before they ever step foot in a dealer’s showroom. Player’s will have the opportunity to replicate the Volts experience of gas-free driving which can travel up 40 miles on pure electric power, and then continuing for an additional 300 miles using their extended range APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) technology.
On a related note the Chevy Volt will also be one of the first advertisers for the new Windows Phone 7.

As a long time Electric Car driver, ( 15+years now). I thought a while back about how interesting a video game could be, showing off some of the fascinating properties of driving an electric car. Even though my EV had a short 30 mile range, with conservative driving.. I, one time, drove it 90 miles on a charge. A video game that showed how much power one was using, compared to the speed one was driving and took into consideration other conservative driving techniques, like timing your red lights, and not driving full speed up to a stop, could make for a very interesting game and relieve the anxiety of running of out battery power. A lot of parameters for this game, as driving half the speed usually means twice the distance.
