The selection of EVs that are currently offered by the major car manufacturers in the USA are still meager at best, but the available models of electric vehicles and hybrids will soon increase substantially over the next few months and the latter half of the year.

Tesla 2011 Roadster
Tesla Motors Roadster, Approximate price: $101,500 USD
This all-electric (pure EV) is powered by a 288-horsepower electric motor via 6,831 fairly standard lithium-ion laptop batteries, which get you from zero to 60 MPH in 3.7 seconds (that’s scary fast)! This EV just broke the EV range world record by traveling 313 miles on a single charge, however, this was accomplished by rarely exceeding speeds of greater than 35 MPH.

Toyota Prius
Toyota Prius, Starting at 22,400 USD
The first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, with worldwide cumulative sales of approximately 2 million units, with more than half of those sales being in the USA alone. The 3rd generation Prius gets approximately 50 MPG.

Fisker Karma
Fisker Karma, (April, 2011) Approximate price: $95,900 USD
The Karma is a 4-door, rear-wheel-drive sedan built in Finland and distributed by U.S.-based Fisker. It has a range of 50 miles on pure electric power and after that point its 4-cylinder, 2.0 liter gasoline engine is used to recharge it’s lithium-ion battery pack.

Chevy Volt
Chevrolet Volt, (Available Now) Approximate price: $40,000 USD
GM’s much talked about plug-in EV that represents General Motor’s big step away from combustion engine propelled vehicles. It has a range of 40 miles before a small gas engine (APU: Auxilary Power Unit) is used to run a generator that recharges it’s lithium-ion batteries, that will allow it to travel over 300 miles.

Nissan Leaf
Nissan Leaf (Available Now) Approximate price: $30,000 USD ($21,500 in California)
Nissan’s promising four to five seat pure-electric car, with a 100 mile (160 km) range and a top speed of 87 MPH (140 km/h).

BYD e6
BYD Auto E6 (China) Price not yet announced.
In pure-electric mode the E6 can carry five passengers an estimated 250 miles. The fully configured version can propel the EV from zero to 60 MPH in less than eight seconds and has a top speed of about 100 MPH.
EMV Motors EMV 210, 310 & 510 Price not yet announced (Asia & EU: Now, USA: Still Pending Approval)

EMV Motors 210 City EV

EMV 510 Family
EMV Motors current product line includes three cars (EMV 210 City, EMV 310 GL and EMV 510 Family) and five electric and hybrid scooters (Lyon Hybrid, Paris Hybrid, Le Mans Hybrid, Cannes Hybrid and Milano Electric) which have approval for sale in the EU, and most of Asia, but is still waiting DOT approval for their passenger vehicles in the USA.

Amp Electric Saturn Sky conversion
AMP GM Conversions
AMP is taking orders now for delivery of a 100% electric version of GMs award winning 5-seater Chevy Equinox or if you prefer something more sporty the Saturn Sky and the Pontiac Solstice convertibles.
Blade Electron (Australia & New Zealand)

Blade Electron
Blade Electric Vehicles (BEV) has been in the EV conversion business longer than most and have been producing electric vehicles under their own brand since 2006. The Blade Electron, aka Hyundai’s Getz EV is available now.

Electric Ford Focus
Available Starting in 2011:
Ford Focus Electric, Price not yet announced.
The EV version of the Ford Focus will be powered by lithium-ion battery packs and have a range of about 100 miles and an approximate top speed of 90 MPH. Surprisingly Ford has evidently decided to reduce the acceleration of it’s prototype Focus EVs (via software) to more closely mimic the driving experience of it’s slower petrol-powered version!

Ford EV Transit Connect
Ford Transit Connect Van, No available price.
Ford’s first “official” battery-powered electric vehicle will be an EV version of their Transit Connect panel van. Ford customers can opt for either an entry level 60 mile range version of an 100 mile extended range version.

Don’t forget about Zap cars…
James we didn’t forget about Zap cars (which have been available since last year), we just didn’t include NEVs or cars/trucks such as those currently produced by Zap that can’t maintain highway speeds and/or be considered a fully functional “replacement” for the family fossil fuel burning car. I expect to soon see bigger and faster things from Zap since their recent majority share purchase of China’s Jonway Auto.
i’m still waiying for these evs ro appear, what’s the hold up .i understood they would be out in august?.what’sgoing on.? i can’t wait any longer. i suppose each manufaturer only need produce one vehicle,i can see this is going to be like pulling teeth,i wonder if the oil compan ys have anything to do with these delays. in the meantime we all wait.
Please, enough with the ‘later this year’ dreaming. Just show us what you can buy now and add the others when they actually materialize. It’s September; where do I go to buy my Fisker?
Since you included the Ford delivery van, you should also include Smith for those in the UK.
All of the futures selling of EVs has discredited the industry. It’s time for the true EV professionals to discuss and review what is, not what may be.
