Summary:

BMW i8 Sports Car Concept is a preview production model, which will be launched in 2014 and built in BMW’s plant in Leipzig. It’s a plug-in hybrid electric sports car with extended range. The BMW i8 plug-in hybrid uses almost an identical 170-HP electric motor found in the BMW i3, but mounted and providing power to the front wheels. Mounted in the back and powering the real wheels is a three-cylinder combustion engine producing 164 kW/220 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). The dual propulsion methods combine to give the BMW i8 405 lb-ft of torque and 350 HP, which should easily allow it to go 0 to 60 MPH in less than 5 seconds.
