In a bold move to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption, Ford has unveiled its new “Ford Power Promise” program, offering substantial incentives to potential EV buyers.

According to Ford, buyers who purchase or lease a new Ford EV will receive a free home charger and standard installation, among other benefits starting October 1, 2024.

The cornerstone of the Power Promise program is the provision of a complimentary Ford Charge Station Pro, typically priced at $1,310, along with standard installation costs covered by Ford. This Level 2 charger offers up to 80 amps of power and features bi-directional capabilities, allowing the EV to power a home during outages.

“We’re the only ones doing this,” stated Becca Anderson, senior director of customer experience at Ford’s Model e division. “This means less stress and more convenience for our customers, making their home charging set-up easy.”

Ford’s Power Promise Program

To combat these concerns, the Power Promise program includes:

  • 24/7 live support for EV-related queries
  • Proactive roadside assistance, including transportation to the nearest charging station if needed
  • An 8-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty
  • Access to Ford’s BlueOval Charge network, boasting over 75,000 chargers
  • Compatibility with Tesla’s Supercharger network via NACS adapters

The Power Promise program runs from October 1, 2024, through January 2, 2025. It applies to new purchases or leases of Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit models. For buyers unable to install a home charger, Ford offers a $2,000 credit as an alternative.

Power Promise Program’s Impact

As the second-largest EV seller in the United States (U.S.) behind Tesla, Ford’s strategic move with the Power Promise program could significantly influence the EV market. The company aims to address common misconceptions about EV ownership, including concerns about range, battery health, and overall cost of ownership.

Despite growing EV sales, Ford faces challenges in its EV division, reporting losses in the first half of 2024. As a result, the Power Promise program represents a strategic investment to boost adoption and potentially improve the division’s financial performance.

With Ford’s innovative approach in its latest move in its EV strategy, the Power Promise program may set a new standard for buyer incentives and support in the EV market.
