According to Honda, its first electric SUV in the United States (U.S.) market, the Honda Prologue, achieved its best sales month ever since its March debut. The model sold 5,401 units in August alone, bringing its total sales to 10,394 through August.

As a result, the figure doubled in one month alone, showing the Honda Prologue as a strong competitor in the electric SUV segment, already outselling established rivals like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6.

Starting at under $48,000, the Prologue offers up to 296 miles of range, which Honda claims is the highest standard driving range in its class. The Prologue is available in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, with the latter offering up to 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque.

Honda Brand Sales Growth

Honda’s luxury brand, Acura, is also making strides in the EV market. The all-new Acura ZDX electric SUV sold 1,003 units in August, its best month since launch. The performance-oriented ZDX Type S variant accounted for nearly 20% of ZDX sales.

In terms of Honda’s overall sales growth, American Honda’s total auto sales reached 139,950 units in August, marking a 25% increase compared to the previous year. The Honda brand has maintained strong momentum, exceeding 100,000 units for the seventh consecutive month.

Progression In Market Position

Despite being a relative latecomer to the long-range EV market, Honda’s electric offerings are off to a strong start. The company’s overall sales are up 11% in 2024, outpacing the industry and increasing market share.

As Honda continues to expand its EV lineup and the nationwide rollout of models like the Prologue and ZDX progresses, the company appears well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for EVs in the U.S. market.
