Subaru has announced a strategic collaboration with Toyota to roll out three new electric vehicles (EV) crossovers. The announcement comes from Subaru executives detailing the plans during an earnings presentation on Monday, where these three new EVs will be developed by 2026 according to Automotive News.

The team-up with Toyota will assist Subaru in leveraging the company’s expertise and resources to develop and produce EVs, where the partnership will provide a pathway to mitigate financial burdens and accelerate EV adoption. Notably, Toyota has 20% ownership of Subaru.

These three new EVs will be SUVs, whereas Subaru’s current EV model only consists of its Solterra model. All this is part of Subaru’s plan to boost its EV lineup and the company made a Panasonic battery partnership to do just that. Furthermore, Subaru also plans to introduce four battery electric vehicles (BEVs) with one produced on U.S. soil by the end of 2028, and confirmed a deal to adopt Tesla’s NACS charge ports for its upcoming EVs.

Subaru CEO, Atsushi Osaki, expressed the importance of the Toyota partnership for its upcoming EVs to Automotive News, stating, “There is a huge risk for us to go it alone in this field. We have held talks with Toyota and have agreed that it is better to reduce risks through joint development.”

With Subaru’s goal to hit 600,000 EV sales by 2030, the company’s latest deals and partnerships capitalize on its dedication to achieve that. As the EV market faces daily changes depending on the moves made by automakers, Subaru’s collaboration with Toyota marks a positive one that will drive the transition to electric mobility further.
