BYD’s Denza Z9 GT Features A Tri-Motor Setup, 391-Mile Range, And Luxury Amenities Like A 50-Inch AR Head-Up Display

BYD’s premium brand Denza has announced that its Z9 GT electric vehicle (EV) model has reached 10,000 deliveries since its launch in September 2024. This achievement makes it the fastest new energy luxury vehicle to reach this milestone.

The Denza Z9 GT, which combines striking design with advanced technology, represents BYD’s ambitious push into the premium segment. Originally established as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler in 2011, Denza is now fully owned by BYD and has positioned the Z9 GT to compete directly with established luxury brands like Porsche and BMW, particularly in the European market where it plans to launch at competitive price points.
Moreover, the Denza Z9 GT’s success is especially significant given its positioning in the luxury segment, with an average selling price of RMB 380,000 yuan (around $52,000). The Z9 GT offers both fully electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, catering to different consumer preferences. The electric version showcases impressive technical specifications, featuring a tri-motor setup that delivers nearly 1,000 horsepower combined, with a 308 hp front motor and dual rear motors producing 644 horsepower.

When it comes to range and charging capabilities, the Z9 GT demonstrates significant advances in EV technology. The BEV variant, powered by a 100 kWh BYD battery pack, achieves a CLTC range of 630 km (391 miles), while the PHEV version extends this to an outstanding 1,100 km (683 miles). The vehicle’s 800V high-voltage platform enables rapid charging, with the ability to charge from 30% to 80% in just 19 minutes.
In addition, the Z9 GT’s dimensions place it in direct competition with established luxury models like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Panamera GTS. At 5,180 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, it offers a notable presence on the road while maintaining elegant proportions.

For the interior, BYD has implemented cutting-edge technology, including its proprietary 9000 smart cockpit chip developed in collaboration with TSMC. The interior features an impressive array of displays, including a 13.2-inch driver display, 17.3-inch infotainment screen, 13.2-inch passenger display, and a massive 50-inch augmented reality head-up display. Luxury amenities include dual refrigerators, Devialet speakers, and seats with heating, ventilation, and 10-point massage functions.

The pricing strategy reflects BYD’s intention to make luxury EVs more accessible, with the EV variant starting at RMB 354,800 ($48,500) for the Pro trim and RMB 384,800 ($52,600) for the Max trim. The PHEV lineup offers three variants ranging from RMB 334,800 ($45,800) to RMB 414,800 ($56,600).
This successful market entry contributes to Denza’s overall strong performance, with the brand delivering 15,059 vehicles in December alone and achieving total deliveries of 126,035 units in 2024. The rapid success of the Z9 GT, evidenced by securing over 5,000 orders within just 36 hours of its launch, suggests a growing acceptance of Chinese luxury vehicles and could signal a shift in the global premium EV market dynamics.
As BYD prepares to introduce the Z9 GT to European markets, this early success in China provides a strong foundation for its international expansion plans and showcases the increasing capability of Chinese automakers to compete in the premium segment of the global automotive market.
